The week before last, I celebrated my husbands birthday. As a nice surprise I wanted to style my hair a little differently…so I straightened it. (Boo for me….used heat and scissors…totally not on my Winter Regimen)
Well, since what’s done is done, I’ll accept the good.
My hair looks great! I didn’t think it was this long. I was able to get my first proper trim in about 2-3 years (definitely first since returning back to natural), I got to experience Hair Designs by Paula and my husband loved it. So that’s what I’ll focus on.
(I separated my hair into 6 chunky twists. 4 at the back, two in the front on each side of my face. My hair stayed in these chunky twists through-out hot oil/wash/deep condition steps)
I then used the double-boiling method by placing the bowl (all ingredients inside bowl) into pot of boiling water. The indirect heat melted the ingredients and made mixing easier. I mixed with a spoon until all of the oils were mixed in with the honey. The mixture was very warm and still thick when I applied generously to my hair. Each twist was saturated with this mix from root to tip.
- 3 large tablespoons of raw honey
- 3 tablespoons of Vatika oil
- 1-2 tablespoons of Omega oil
- 4 generous tablespoons of Jamaican Black Castor oil
After almost 3 hours with that in, I shampoo’d my hair with 2 ounces of ACV (apple cider vinegar) shampoo diluted with 2 ounces of water.
I added the shampoo to my roots only, prior to entering the shower. I made sure my scalp was cleansed (lathered shampoo). I added water (in the shower) and distributed the shampoo down the strands of each section (in the shower).
Once done, I added my deep conditioner mix of JASONS ‘s Apricot Conditioner, Tresemme moisture conditioner and 4-5 large tablespoons of melted Organic virgin coconut oil to my hair (root-to-tip). The quantities of my conditioners are not really measured. The goal is to get enough to saturate ALL my strands. So the final quantity of this DC mix was maybe 1.5 palms-full for each chunky twist.
Slept with that overnight for about 5-6 hours.
ATTENTION ATTENTION-Loblaws Organic sections is definitely worth visiting for Natural Shampoos, Conditioners, styling aids. So far best prices I’ve seen for certified organic hair products! The JASON conditioners (which I love) are about $6.
I washed out the deep conditioner in the am, added Giovanni Direct Leave-In and now braided each chunky twist to stretch out my hair as it air-dried. I had to split some of the sections in 2 to braid my hair.
Once at Paula’s all she added was Jamaican Black Castor oil to my scalp and a little to my strands (which were still a little damp) and proceeded.
Blow-dry, flat-iron, proper trim then bump. Paula’s use of heat was not unnecessarily repetitive, she was quick and efficient. Great and welcoming environment, had a great time. (but book early cuz she is busy!)
So, I’ll try to take as many pics as I can of my straightened hair…I don’t plan on doing this too often…hopefully next year….but I am not holding my breath on that one 😉
