Winter Regimen 2013/2014

So far this will be my Winter Regimen for 2013/14. I am committed to this regimen because its as simple as it gets for my strands, my time and my patience.

I’ve decided to participate in 2 challenges to hopefully motivate me and help me stick to it.

I’m going to participate in the KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com Castor Oil Challenge Winter 2013

This challenge runs from Dec 1-Mar 1. It requires dedication to consistent use of castor oil in my weekly regimen. I’ve always known Castor oil to be great for my hair. Rubbing castor oil on scalp and roots will regeneragte new hair growth within months. Castor oil also thickens hair.

I love love love CurlsNLipstick for the amazing make-up tutorials!

The goal of this challenge is to take care of our hair and most important (to me) acceptance of our hair. I’ve said this before, and here it goes again, the biggest challenge you’ll face when going natural is self-acceptance, so I think that it is great that CurlsNLipstick also has that goal in their challenge. The requirements of this challenge are:

1. No Shampoo-this will be difficult on my lazy days

2. Weekly hot oil treatments of 2 hrs or overnight-this will tie in well with the Castor oil challenge.

3. No Heat-this aint gonna be easy for me. Blow-drying my hair makes things so much easier-so another difficulty on my lazy days

Basically I can’t be lazy with my hair this winter. If I expect and want (kinda badly) to see some drastic hair growth (drastic according to my own hair’s capabilities) I have to commit to it.

So here it is….

Wash Day (most likely Fri/Sat)

1. Hot oil treatment on scalp with castor oil and some olive oil, on strand with spritz of water & olive oil

Plastic cap + wool hat

Leave on for 2 hrs

2. Wash with either

Baking soda mixed with water to scrub scalp   PLUS
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) with water sprayed along strands

OR

Ghassoul clay

OR

Co-Wash with any good AND cheap conditioner

3. Deep Condition with

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (this is a staple) with coconut oil (I may add other oils-castor oil, peppermint oil, olive oil etc depending on mood)

Plastic cap + wool hat

Leave on for 1-2 hrs or possibly overnight

4. Oil rinse in shower (this step allows me to skip a leave in conditioner)

I use a mix of Olive oil, Coconut oil, Lavender oil (I may add Castor oil)

5. Style with Whipped Shea Butter Mix

6. Green House Effect (overnight steaming)

Sun, Tues, Thurs GHE with spritz of water and castor oil along the length of my hair.
Plastic cap + satin bonnet/sometimes wool hat

This total process does not have to and will not be done in 1 day. It seems long but considering that this can be done once per week or every other week, I’m ok with this.
